About the track

On “IRB” Tiffany Sammy deals with the punches of burnout following your passion. A heavy sentiment, though she circles the ring with a laid back and carefree attitude. “IRB” is a follow up to her twangy power pop single “Scam Likely” and showcases the “soft punk” sound that she often self-describes her music as.

“IRB” is fueled by pounding drums and bass from live band members Palana and JK Wong. A cheeky synth run, distorted guitar riffs and Sammy’s vocals, that range from relaxed to snarling, float throughout. The track also features Sadie Dupuis, of Speedy Ortiz and Sad13, contributing guitar riffs among the shared lines of Sammy and live band guitarist Tom Stevens. Sammy with her live band crafted the song in Western Massachusetts with engineer and producer Justin Pizzoferrato (Dinosaur Jr., Pixies, Sonic Youth, Sebadoh) at Sonelab.

Sammy says of the track “I wrote this when I felt very burnt out by playing music and being in a band. There’s that saying ‘Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life’ well that’s just not true! I love making music and performing, but it is work and energy you expend. All the minutiae just fried me. There’s another famous saying ‘write what you know’ well most of what I know is being in a band.”

With countless shows under her belt, TIFFY has established herself as a formidable live presence in the Boston and New England music scenes, opening for Speedy Ortiz, Guerilla Toss, and as a part of music festivals NICE, a fest, The Town & City Festival, The Thing In The Spring, SOME fest, and more. She will be on tour this summer with stops in Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Chicago and more.
